Nez Perce Trail Extension Project Site Certification Ceremonies Friday, November 4, 2005 Baxter Springs, Kansas • Quapaw, Oklahoma
The Nez Perce Trail Extension Project is developing interpretive signs for two sites that have historical significance during the Nez Perce's period of exile in Kansas and Oklahoma from 1878 to 1885.
The interpretive signs are being installed at Baxter Springs, Kansas and Bicentennial Park (near Quapaw, Oklahoma), in order to have each site certified as part of the Nez Perce (Nee-Me-Poo) National Historic Trail.
Ceremonies will be held at the two sites to unveil the signs and certify each site. Invited Guests/Speakers:
• Nez Perce tribal leaders, elders, historians, and descendants of the Nez Perce War of 1877
• Kansas/Oklahoma tribal leaders and historians
• Local historians and dignitaries
